Laurie Blakeman was elected to her fourth term as Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Centre on March 3, 2008.

In addition to her role as MLA, Ms Blakeman has served as:

  • Critic Responsible for Health and Wellness

Ms Blakeman was born in Edmonton on May 23, 1958. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Alberta and a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension.

Before her MLA career, Ms Blakeman worked as:
Executive Director, Alberta Advisory Council on Women’s Issues
General Manager, Phoenix Theatre and Theatre Network
Chief Trainer, Medical Council of Canada LMCC Part II
Executive Director, Alberta Snowmobile Association

Ms Blakeman’s active community involvement has included:

  • President, Celebration of Women in the Arts
  • President, Provincial Association of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Alberta
  • Founder, December 6th National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
  • President, University of Alberta Drama Alumni Association
