Bill 201 to be Voted On March 9th
Alberta Liberal MLA Kent Hehr is asking for Albertans to support Bill 201 before debate on the bill resumes on March 9th.
Bill 201 aims to reduce gang violence by giving police officers the power to revoke driver’s licences and issue hefty fines to gang members who carry illegal firearms in their vehicles.
“Reaction from the public and police officers has been enthusiastic from the first moment they heard about the bill,” Hehr says.
“I believe that public support and pressure has played a significant role in the debate thus far. To successfully pass second reading and eventually become law, this bill will require an additional outpouring of public support.”
So far, Hehr has received letters of support for the bill’s passage from John Dooks of the Calgary Police Association, Barry Davidson of the Community Life Improvement Council of Calgary, Lethbridge Regional Police Chief Tom McKenzie and Ontario MPP Mike Colle.
“Your voice matters. That’s why I’m asking you to write, call and email your MLA,” Hehr says.
“Join with us in supporting Bill 201. Spread the word that the fight against gang violence is a public one.”
