Energizing Alberta

Energy is Alberta’s most important industry. From oil and gas to electricity, here’s how an Alberta Liberal administration would energize Alberta:

• We will reform the electricity system, ensuring it works in the interest of consumers, not electricity companies. Electricity prices will be fair, and will be stable.
• We will reinvigorate the natural gas drilling sector, protecting jobs and protecting royalties. Read here for more.
• We will ensure that there is a vibrant upgrading industry in Alberta, one that adds value to the bitumen produced in this province.
• We will ensure a fair return to Albertans from royalties from all sectors of the oil and gas industry, while ensuring Alberta remains competitive.
• We would plan the development of the oil sands, staggering projects to keep costs down, production levels up, and have projects coming on-stream at a manageable pace.
• We have been consistent in saying that we think every other option for electrical generation should be pursued before a commitment is made to nuclear.
• We will use a variety of means and incentives – legislative, regulatory, financial – to promote renewable energy production and use in Alberta
• We would roll back the undemocratic, secretive process of pushing through expensive transmission lines that Bill 50 put in place.
• We would ensure that consumers do not bear the whole cost of any new transmission lines in the province – the electricity companies should pay their share.
